Marsh Ferns are native to North America. Marsh ferns grow well in boggy to moderately wet soil. Growing marsh ferns requires a location that receives full sun to part sun. Sandy, acidic soil is the best, but this adaptable plant can survive in almost any soil as long as it is moist and not in standing water. They are attractive and will add a lush texture to the water garden. Host plant for Marsh Fern Moth. They are fairly winter hardy.

Marsh Fern (Thelypteris palustris) – Native Bog Plant for Pond Edges

Hardy, Lush Fern for Moist Soils and Natural Water Gardens

Marsh Fern (Thelypteris palustris) is a native North American bog plant that adds soft, lush texture to pond edges and wetland gardens. This adaptable fern thrives in boggy to moderately moist soil and prefers full sun to partial sun, performing best in sandy, slightly acidic conditions. Growing 2 to 4 feet tall, it creates a natural, layered look while supporting local ecosystems as a host plant for the Marsh Fern Moth. While it prefers consistently moist soil, it can tolerate occasional dry conditions once established, as long as it is not planted in standing water. Hardy in zones 4–9, Marsh Fern is an excellent choice for adding greenery and depth to natural-style water gardens. Please note: this plant is not available for shipping to certain states due to regulations.
