1445

Marsh Marigold is one of the first pond plants to bloom in the spring. Does best in Planting Zones 3-7, not recommended for hot climates. The cheery, yellow flowers are quite pretty. It will wilt back where the summer is hot, but will begin growing again in the fall.  Found naturally along slow moving streams and wooded wetlands.  Caltha palustris is important ecologically, providing protection for many small aquatic creatures and assisting in water clarifying by absorbing nutrients and trapping silt.

Marsh Marigold (Caltha palustris) – Early Spring Blooming Pond Plant

Bright Yellow Flowers for Cool-Climate Ponds and Natural Wetlands

Marsh Marigold (Caltha palustris) is one of the earliest blooming pond plants, producing cheerful yellow flowers that brighten water gardens in early spring. Native to slow-moving streams and wooded wetlands, this hardy plant thrives in cooler climates (zones 3–7) and is ideal for naturalizing pond edges, bog gardens, and moist landscapes. Growing about 12 inches tall with a spreading habit, it performs best in full sun to partial shade and in moist soil or shallow water up to 4 inches deep. While it may go dormant during hot summer conditions, it returns with renewed growth in the fall. In addition to its beauty, Marsh Marigold plays an important ecological role by helping clarify water, absorbing nutrients, and providing habitat for small aquatic life.
