Hornwort (Ceratophyllum demersum)
Hornwort is the best submerged/oxygenating plants to help keep algae growth to a minimum and is very winter hardy in the north. Baby fish love to hide in the dense foliage of Hornwort. A great oxygenating plant that does not need to be planted. Hornwort is a fast growing pond plant that competes with algae for nutrients, helping keep the water clean and clear. Hornwort is also known as Coontail, has sturdy, hair-like foliage that oxygenates and clarifies the water. Use one bunch for every 2-4 square feet of surface area or one bunch per 20 gallons of water for fish protection and to keep pond crystal clear.
